Important Issues
The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and the Miami-Dade Jewish community have an effective and deep-seated history of political activism. Grounded in our Jewish traditions of caring for those in need and working to repair the world, our advocacy efforts have evolved hand-in-hand with our philanthropic achievements.
Activism in Federation takes many forms. It is the giving of tzedakah to the Annual Federation/UJA Campaign and to other emergency efforts. It also involves becoming educated and engaged in the issues that affect the Jewish community and then taking action to promote those issues. The JCRC provides the guidance necessary to be organized and effective.
At the JCRC, we are proud to have forged relationships with coalition partners and elected officials that reflect our concerns for global social justice and social services, and for the safety and security of Jews in Israel and around the world, as well as the ever-increasing need to leverage private philanthropy with government funding.
Through our ongoing efforts, JCRC works to advance our mission to:
- Educate and engage the Jewish community on key international, federal, state and local issues
- Ensure a vibrant community that is able to take positions and advocate in pursuit of social justice
- Establish relationships and build coalitions with ethnic, religious, governmental and civic groups and the media
- Maximize government funding that is available for programs and services operated by Federation Partner Agencies
Each member of our Jewish community must give voice to the cares and concerns of our people. Together with the programs our JCRC holds throughout Miami-Dade County year-round, we can work to strengthen Jewish advocacy and provide innovative approaches to a number of important issues, including:
