Impacting Issues
There are many matters of concern to our community, and Miami’s Jewish women are dedicated to actively learning about these issues and finding ways to enact change. There’s no better way to join with women who support causes you care about, find volunteer opportunities and fundraise than through Women’s Philanthropy of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation.
Consider some of the topics Women’s Philanthropy has worked to address:
- Economic and Societal Empowerment of Israeli Women
In conjunction with the Federation Israel and Overseas Department, the Women’s Amutot Initiative was established in 2003 to focus exclusively on the needs and welfare of women and girls in Israel. Since that year, $1,700,000 has been allocated to non-governmental organizations that have identified needs of women and girls in Israel and are creating social change. There are currently 18 non-governmental organizations focusing on economic empowerment, societal empowerment, protection against and prevention of violence, and leadership development that are funded through this Initiative. - Domestic Abuse Awareness and Prevention
In addition to the overseas work of the Women’s Amutot Initiative, Women’s Philanthropy led the effort in Miami to bring to light the plight of victims of domestic abuse. One outcome of these efforts is the successful Shalom Bayit (Peace in the Home) program that is now under the management of Federation’s local partner agency, Jewish Community Services of South Florida. - Advocacy
Women’s Philanthropy partners with the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation to educate women and help them take action on current issues at the local, state, national – and even international – levels. If there’s a matter you care about, we’ll help you find effective ways to do something about it. Click here for more information.
