The Petition

With the possibility of a new war between Sudan and the newly independent Republic of South Sudan, the time for Congress to raise its voice is now. Congress must take strong action by ensuring accountability for those working against the interests of peace.

The Sudan Peace, Security, and Accountability Act of 2012 (H.R. 4169) would compel the government of the United States to design a comprehensive strategy for ending serious human rights violations, promoting democratic reform, and establishing lasting peace in Sudan. It would also create a strong sanctions regime for any person or government that, for example, provides military equipment or funding, fails to execute arrest warrants against Sudanese indicted war criminals, or interferes with the transfer of humanitarian aid.
