Community Service Awards were presented to nine outstanding individuals who are doing wonderful things to help so many people in Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties by the Alliance for Aging, Inc., at their 24th Annual Installation and Awards Luncheon at Jungle Island in January.
The Jose Paulos “Above and Beyond” Award recognizes people who are role models for the community in service to elders, and consistently provides information by making sure that elders receive the information they need to improve their lives. Two winners received this award, both from Jewish Community Services. David Mermelstein and Joe Sachs were recognized for their work with Holocaust survivors in the South Florida Community.
Among the other winners were The Elder Statesman Award , given in recognition of someone who has made outstanding contributions to the South Florida community as a voice for elders, awarded to Commissioner Sally Heyman.
A Special Recognition Award was presented to 97 ¾ year old Anne Forster. Mrs. Forster was celebrated for being a great inspiration of positive spirit, and continuing to serve as an ambassador of good will at her home, the Irving Cypen Tower at Miami Jewish Health Systems. Her paintings, all completed in her 90’s and recently copyrighted are being printed on note cards and sold to raise funds for arts and crafts supplies at Irving Cypen Tower.
