When Norman Eisen moved into the ambassador’s residence in Prague, he was returning to the land his mother had fled after the Holocaust. He was startled to find swastikas hidden beneath the furniture in his new home that were remnants of the residence’s forgotten history. From that discovery unspooled the captivating tale of four remarkable people who had called this palace home – a Jewish financial baron; a cultured German general; the first postwar U.S. ambassador; and Ambassador Shirley Temple Black. Ambassador Eisen is a frequent contributor to CNN.
