Performance on Nov. 1 to honor victims of Pittsburgh synagogue shooting

On Thursday, Nov. 1, the Amernet String Quartet, FIU’s Artist-in-Residence Ensemble, will hold a moment of silence and dedicate their “FIU Meets Juilliard: Amernet & Kalichstein” concert to the victims of the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting .

The Amernet will open with a special performance of Dem Rebens Nigun (“The Rabbi’s Melody”) by Jewish composer Aleksandr Zhitomorskii.

“As Jewish artists who believe deeply in the power of music to heal and transform, we hope this performance will bring some comfort to those in pain and inspire us all to seek greater understanding,” said Jason Calloway, cellist of the quartet.

The Amernet actively advocates for neglected works of the past, particularly those by composers of the Jewish diaspora.

The performance will take place at the Wertheim Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. Donations for the synagogue and the victims will be collected at the door.
