It's Happening In Miami
Come learn about your Soul and hear from a Spiritual Guide
Posted by Liat Stilman on 01/04/2018 @ 04:01 PM
Rabbi Naomi Levy, one of the leading Jewish spiritual leaders in America, will discuss her new book, Einstein and the Rabbi: Searching for the Soul. The program will be at the MAR JCC on January 9 at 8 PM, with a reception at 7:30. This book discusses an exchange of letters between a rabbi and Einstein about the nature of the soul, a question many of us have, and yet few in the Jewish community actually talk about. It is also a personal memoir about her own spiritual journey, which began with a traumatic tragedy in her own life. The lessons we hear can help us on our own spiritual journeys.
One reader remarked, “Rabbi Levy's writing touches the soul. She has a talent for stirring the spirit through her accessible, unpretentious yet profound style that takes us places we didn't expect. Her openness inspires our own and invites us to nurture our spiritual lives. I loved this book and wholeheartedly recommend it.”

Billy Jonas is a songsmith, multi-instrumentalist, and Jewish educator. Since 1987 he has performed worldwide, in both secular and faith-oriented contexts, using voice, guitar and “industrial re-percussion” (instruments made from found objects).
Don’t miss the chance to experience Billy Jonas at Temple Judea!
Friday, January 19th Coleman Shabbat 6:00pm Billy will be joining Rabbi Siegal, Rabbi Fisch, Cantorial Soloist Jodi Rozental, and our Camp Coleman campers to enrich our Shabbat service. Saturday, January 20th Tot Shabbat Sing-and-Play – 10:00am Funky Jewish music for the whole family! Billy’s creative sounds are guaranteed to inspire wonder, joy, and singing. Billy Jonas makes innovative use of found objects, using the rhythm of words, the body, and instruments to inspire young and old.
The Art of Jewish Song (Seudah Shlishit) – 3:00pm Location TBA A participatory musical experience! Using Billy’s original pieces, original settings of prayers and liturgical texts, as well as standards, we’ll dive into the heart of what makes a song or melody “Jewish.”
Sunday, January 21st Re-Percussion (for J-PLEx 4th-6th graders) – 9:30am With boxes, tin cans, and plastic containers, tape, and ingenuity, we’ll create playable musical sculptures. The sky is the limit!
Family Concert – 11:30am Engaging sing-alongs, call and response, and question/answer songs, with lots of hand motions, featuring homemade percussion instruments from found and recyclable objects.
This program is made possible by generous contributions made to the Kalish Artist-in-Residence Fund. This fund was established in memory of Hillary Kalish, daughter of Ronald & Nedra Kalish to insure that Temple Judea is able to offer regular artist-in-residence programs.
