Sculptures by Sharon Dash now at the Alper JCC Futernick Art Gallery

Miami artist Sharon Dash’s unique and expressive sculptures are on view in Futernick Family Art Gallery at The Dave and Mary Alper Jewish Community Center, 11155 SW 112th Ave, Miami, FL 33176, through May 6, 2018. Admission is free.

Ms. Dash’s award-winning work has been exhibited at juried and invitational shows locally and nationally, with continuous Best of Show and other laudable awards. Her work has been seen in such juried and invitational exhibitions as Essential Earth Invitational Ceramics Exhibition in Wayne, PA, Small Favors XI in Philadelphia, Art of Expression, Artisans on the Avenue in Lake Forth, Ceramics in Architecture at the Coral Gables Museum, Ceramic League of Miami and many more.

Ms. Dash explains: “Ceramic sculpture is my passion! Clay is a magical, expressive medium allowing endless opportunities to explore the figure and create sculpture about the human condition. My sculptures tell stories about people -- their daily lives, emotions, struggles and triumphs. The human face and amazing array of expressions and emotions it can reveal has always fascinated me and continues to be a source of inspiration. Current events, animals, and the South Florida environment also play a role in my sculptures. Each piece is hand-built using stoneware clay, created without an armature and fired in an electric kiln. I generally begin with a concept or idea and work intuitively with the clay to its final conclusion, enjoying the creative journey along the way. I hope viewers will relate to my sculptures with a sense of shared experience, wonder, reflection and an occasional smile.

The Futernick Family Art Gallery is open Sundays 1 – 4pm; Tuesdays and Fridays 9:30am – 4pm; please call for an appointment. . Visit www.alperjcc.org for more information or contact Suzy Breitner at 305.271.9000 ext. 265 or [email protected].

TREIS DONATES FOOD TO JCS KOSHER FOOD BANK TO SUPPORT FAMILIES IN NEED DURING PASSOVER

On Thursday, March 29th, the day before Passover, Tiktin Real Estate Investment Services (TREIS) purchased and donated fresh Passover foods and supplies to the newly expanded Jewish Community Services (JCS) Kosher Food Bank at 15455 West Dixie Highway in North Miami Beach.

According to JCS, the demand for fresh produce, meats and goods that meet the specific dietary laws for Passover is particularly high. TREIS pulled together a team of volunteers who spent the day purchasing and donating non-perishable staples and canned goods, fresh produce, meat and frozen items to meet those requirements.

This day of volunteering served as the kick-off for TREIS’ philanthropic initiative campaign, which serves to partner the firm with various local nonprofit organizations throughout the year. Following the donation, Bonnie Schwartzbaum, director of the JCS Kosher Food Bank, led a guided tour of the facility for all of the volunteers.

“Having grown up in North Miami Beach and now as I raise my own children here, this city is very special to me,” stated Adam J. Tiktin, president and broker, TREIS. “JCS is a remarkable organization that works extremely hard to provide for those in need, and they rely on the community for support. Having the ability to give back at such an important time such as Passover is very meaningful, and I am proud of my team for supporting this important initiative,” he added.

The JCS Kosher Food Bank is the only food bank in South Florida to which those who observe kosher (kashrut) dietary laws can turn. JCS’ Kosher Food Bank provides food to more than 380 families and nearly 100 Holocaust survivors on a monthly basis.

Kosher Food Bank recipients are able to select and ‘shop’ during pre-arranged, scheduled appointments to ensure privacy and confidentiality. Kosher Food bank supplies critically important food items and other daily necessities, as well as evaluates clients’ overall needs and arranges for appropriate support services. Because dignity is of the utmost concern, private one-on-one appointments are scheduled at convenient times.

For volunteer opportunities with other nonprofit organizations, please contact Matthew Kushner at TREIS at 305-363-4750 or 844-4-TIKTIN.
