The Josef Gingold Chamber Music Festival of Miami announces the inaugural season of world-class concerts and intensive educational initiatives celebrating the legacy of violinist Josef Gingold—the primary exponent of the “Golden Age” of violin—on the Miami Shores campus of Barry University, July 7-28, 2019. Josef Gingold’s principal exponent, Cuban-born violinist Andrés Cárdenes, leads the festival as Music Director.

Fifty-five students from around the world descend on Miami for intensive study with 18 faculty members from top conservatories (such as Juilliard, Eastman School of Music, Manhattan School of Music, Colburn School, and St. Petersburg Conservatory, among others) and orchestras (such as New York Philharmonic, Dallas and Pittsburgh Symphonies, among others).

Public concerts occur during the 2019 festival featuring violinists Andrés Cárdenes and Gary Levinson, pianists Alexandre Moutouzkine and Alon Goldstein, cellists Andrés Diaz and Anne Martindale Williams, violists Paul Coletti and Michael Klotz, and other prestigious artists. This is a unique opportunity in Miami to hear some of the world’s foremost classical musicians in an intimate setting this summer. The festival focuses on both solo and chamber repertoire for strings and piano.

The Josef Gingold Chamber Music Festival of Miami upholds the belief in mentoring the next generation of performers in the culturally diverse and vibrant city of Miami. It aims to spread knowledge, interest, and appreciation in classical music across Miami-Dade County. Commemoration of the 25th Anniversary of the Terrorist Attack on the AMIA Jewish Center in Argentina

This coming July 18th will mark the 25th anniversary of the bombing of the AMIA Jewish Community Center, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This attack is considered one of worst anti-Semitic acts since WWII, resulting in 85 deaths and over 300 injuries. Despite Iran’s and Hezbollah’s undeniable responsibility, no one has been brought to justice so far.

For over a decade AJC (American Jewish Committee) in South Florida has, on an annual basis, convened a community-wide initiative in partnership with over 50 local Jewish organizations and institutions, to honor the lives of the AMIA victims. This program- attended by hundreds of people and covered widely- has also provided an invaluable venue through which South Florida’s Jewish community not only raises its voice anew for the pending cause of justice but, also reflects jointly on ongoing issues affecting world Jewry, including growing anti-Semitism and the scourge of terrorism.

Given this particular anniversary, the recent anti-Semitic attacks in the US, and the permanent threat of terrorism facing us, AJC’s Belfer Institute for Latino and Latin American Affairs is planning a very special and even larger event.

This year the memorial and candle lighting ceremony will be held on Tuesday, July 16th at 7:00 PM, at Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus, located on 20350 NE 26th Ave, Miami, FL 33180.
