Volunteer Program to Benefit the Homeless on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
On Monday, January 17, the Jewish Volunteer Center (JVC) of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation will once again take part in the Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service and Learning, honoring the civil rights leader’s legacy with a meaningful day of giving back to the community. The JVC has also partnered with the Young Leadership Division – Federation’s under-40 connection – to encourage young families to participate and make it a family day of service.
The JVC has taken part in this day of giving back for the last two years, and 2011 will see members of Miami’s Jewish community planting and harvesting crops and trees at Roots in the City, an organic farm in Overtown. That food will help feed the homeless and be sold in Overtown farmers markets to benefit the homeless. The day will also include a Jewish-learning opportunity with Rabbi Andrew Shugerman of the Jewish Theological Seminary.
Josh Krut is the chair for this event. The JVC Chair is Mark Kravitz.
There is no cost to participate. Click here to RSVP.
