JCRC Ensures Issues Remain at the Forefront
The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) is the public affairs and advocacy arm of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. Through grassroots activities, JCRC is standing up for social justice and raising awareness about issues of great importance to our community.
JCRC members are volunteers from within our own community, with a mission to educate, act and engage. But the focus goes beyond just Miami. Whether it's anti-Semitism at home or abroad, health care reform, poverty, genocide awareness, U.S.-Israeli relations or any number of other topics, JCRC has been hard at work since 1973 addressing matters of concern. Already this year, JCRC has hosted important events on topics including genocide prevention, security, intergenerational advocacy discussions and the state legislative agenda.
JCRC Chair Regina F. Zelonker noted that in the coming year the organization will provide opportunities to learn about the issues facing Israel, correcting misinformation and addressing stereotypes, media bias and more.
To that end, JCRC will convene an Israel Summit on January 16, 2011, co-sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League and the American Jewish Committee. Program participants will discuss the movement to boycott, delegitimize and sanction Israel, and the sponsoring organizations will work to equip individuals on how to advocate on this vital issue.
“One of JCRC’s goals continues to be to provide the sort of programming and information to equip our community to be as informed and involved as possible, so that we’re best prepared to advocate on behalf of the State of Israel when and wherever needed,” said Zelonker.
