JCRC Participates in a Day of Advocacy in D.C.

JCPA Executive Director David Bernstein, JCRC Director Carol Brick-Turin, JCPA Chair Cheryl Fishbein and JFNA Senior Vice President William Daroff

Last week, leadership from Federation’s Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) traveled to Washington, D.C. on behalf of our Miami Jewish community for a Day of Advocacy. Top priorities included ensuring a safety net in appropriations funding, Israel’s security challenges, Israeli-Palestinian peace initiatives, gun violence, criminal justice reform and passage of the Dream Act. The JCRC joined a national delegation of nearly 40 other representatives from the Jewish Council of Public Affairs to participate in 13 visits on Capitol Hill.

JCRC’s participation in a Day of Advocacy underscored Federation’s engagement on key issues of importance to our community at the federal level. The day also involved a working session with an interfaith group of D.C.-based advocates, including the Religious Action Center of Reformed Judaism, the National Council of Churches, Church World Service and Friends Committee on National Legislation. The group was briefed on priority issues by The Jewish Federations of North America, the National Council of Jewish Women, the Anti-Defamation League and the American Jewish Committee. In this age of polarization, JCPA’s role in voicing our community’s consensus-based, unified position and demonstrating national outreach to congressional decision-makers is as important as ever.
