Mortgage fraud has become an increasingly serious issue throughout the U.S., and runs particularly rampant in South Florida. An estimated 10 to 15 percent of all mortgage applications involve fraud, according to the Florida Mortgage Corporation.
The Young Leadership Divisionof the Greater Miami Jewish Federation will offer insight into this “white collar crime” at its next Speaker Series on Wednesday, February 9. Taking place at the Federation’s Stanley C. Myers Building, 4200 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, the program will begin with registration at 7:45 a.m. and will feature two experts who will talk about ways individuals and companies can protect themselves from mortgage fraud. Phillip R. Stein, Esq., Partner in Bilzin Sumberg's Litigation Group, will discuss the legal ramifications, while Joaquin Urquiola, CPA/CFFA, Partner at Goldstein Schechter Koch, will address the financial issues.
Couvert for the event is $18 in advance and $22 at the door (not tax-deductible), and includes a kosher breakfast. For those who contribute a minimum of $365 to the Annual Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign, couvert is $15. Approved Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits are pending.
