Federation Collecting Donations for Fund for Victims of Terror

Recent events in Israel – including the massacre of the Fogel family, the bombing in central Jerusalem and ongoing rocket attacks – have renewed long-standing concerns about providing assistance to the victims of these and other tragedies. While the Annual Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign provides vital funding for a vast network of programs and services in Israel and around the world, additional funds are often needed to support extraordinary and emergency needs.

As part of the effort to provide such relief, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, together with The Jewish Federations of North America and Jewish communities across the continent, is collecting funds to support the Jewish Agency for Israel’s (JAFI) Fund for Victims of Terror.

JAFI, a Federation overseas partner, established the Fund in 2002 in response to the Second Intifada, when suicide bombers were taking a tremendous toll on Israeli lives. From 2002 to 2005, the Fund provided $20 million in assistance to 3,500 people.

Since then, the Fund has been helping those affected by increased violence and terror in Israel. In 2008, due to the unrelenting barrage on Israel’s Western Negev, JAFI and the Fund for Victims of Terror stepped in to provide immediate emergency relief to the victims, helping hundreds of individuals and families.

The goal of the Fund is to provide Israel’s victims of terror with direct financial assistance, complementing the monetary relief they receive from government agencies and offices.  The support provided by the Fund is designed to improve the quality of life for the victims and their families, to ease their recovery and rehabilitation. Its wide range of intervention and assistance is the result of a joint effort of JAFI, Social Security offices and Israel’s Ministry of Defense.

One hundred percent of all contributions through the Greater Miami Jewish Federation will go to the special Fund for Victims of Terror.

Donation checks with notations of “Fund for Victims of Terror” should be mailed to the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, 4200 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, FL 33137. For assistance, you may also call 305.576.4000, ext. 428.
