Director of the Foundation of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation

BACKGROUND:
The Foundation of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation is the planned giving and endowment arm of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. Established in 1964, the Foundation manages assets of more than $330 million housed in 700+ funds. It is charged with developing the resources necessary to address the future opportunities and challenges of the Miami Jewish community. Allocations and grants from The Foundation fund critical programs in Miami, Israel and around the world. This past year more than $34 million was allocated from The Foundation to these programs and the agencies that provide them.

JOB SUMMARY: 
Working with the Chief Development Officer and volunteer leadership, the Foundation Director is the senior executive responsible for leading efforts to achieve the overall endowment, planned giving, and multi-generational philanthropy objectives for the Greater Miami Jewish Federation. The Director leads a team of professionals in all areas of planned giving and endowment, donor advised funds, supporting organizations and donor relations and stewardship, while coordinating lay and staff resources to meet or exceed established goals and objectives within the Foundation arena and within Federation as a whole.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as lead professional in growing the Foundation’s assets, including unrestricted, field of interest, Agency and Donor Advised Funds
  • Develops comprehensive planned giving strategies in partnership with key lay leaders
  • Serves as Federation and community champion of the Foundation
  • Manages and directs all development aspects related to Foundation, including:
    • Philanthropic Funds, Life Income Plans, Designated Funds
    • Perpetual Annual Campaign Endowment Funds (PACE)
    • Lion of Judah Endowments (LOJE)
    • Supporting Foundations
    • Professional Advisors Council
    • Agency/Congregation Funds housed in the Foundation
    • Create a Jewish Legacy
    • Life Insurance Program
    • Golden Care
  • Develops effective strategies for cultivating, soliciting and stewarding prospects
  • Provides professional support to lay leadership to identify, initiate, and develop solicitation efforts, enhance current initiatives and implement fundraising activities
  • Enhance the visibility and stature of the Foundation among community planned giving professionals
  • Develops and maintains Foundation department budget
  • Serves on Federation FRD Strategy Group

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum level of education:

  • B.S. or B.A. required.
  • Advanced degree (JD, CPA, MBA or CFP) preferred

Experience:

  • 5-10 years of related experience in planned giving, endowment fundraising and foundation and fund management 
  • Successful track record with personal solicitation 
  • Experience in the areas of accounting, business structures, and strategic planning 

Skills and attributes required to perform the job:

Strong interpersonal, relationship building, and leadership skills to interact with a diverse body of lay and professional leaders 

Excellent communication and writing skills 

  • Ability to think strategically and guide others in a strategic planning process   
  • Significant knowledge of charitable gift planning techniques
  • Understanding of the law, especially as it relates to gift planning, foundations and endowments, and non-profit management.   
  • Understanding of the value and nature of the lay/professional partnership
  • Extensive knowledge of the organized Jewish community, its practices, and values
