Help Project Nechama Celebrate Our 16th Year of Delivering Turkeys and Love This Thanksgiving!

On Thanksgiving Day 16 years ago, our family was together, enjoying the holiday and our mom’s birthday, when she said, “Next year, I don’t want to celebrate my birthday just by eating. People are hungry. I want us to go out and feed others. We need to do more.”

Sadly, she never could.

Just six weeks later, our mom, Naomi Schottenfeld Kudish z”l, passed away unexpectedly. As the months moved forward that first year, we sought to honor her memory and fulfill her birthday wish, and created Project Nechama. Nechama, our mother’s Hebrew name, means “comfort.” It describes her generosity of heart, and Project Nechama’s mission: to collaborate with family and friends to fulfill unmet needs and bring comfort to others.

We know this year — the call to action is global for Jews. And we also know, that people right here in our community — may of whom are Holocaust Survivors — need help. And we have the ability to bring normalcy, love and joy to their dinner tables.

Since Thanksgiving 2010, Project Nechama has made a wish come true for those served by the JCS Kosher Food Bank who struggle to put food on the table — by providing them with a Kosher turkey on Thanksgiving. For the hundreds of families in-need that we serve — these turkeys represent more than a satisfying — or for some of us, just a typical Thanksgiving — meal. The gift of these turkeys provides families a sense of normalcy during a painfully difficult period in their lives. It helps people to feel whole at a time when they are struggling day after day.

We have been so blessed – thanks to the support of family and friends, to be able to provide for EVERY family served by the JCS Kosher Food Bank, which serves more than 450 families, including 275 children and 100 Holocaust survivors!

Each gift of $50 allows us to buy one turkey — and, take comfort in knowing that one family’s table, tummies, and hearts will be full. We invite you to help us, to once again ensure that Project Nechama remains a Thanksgiving miracle.

We thank you for your love and generosity, and for keeping “Nechama” a constant presence in our world.

With much love and gratitude,

Lisa, Michael, Noah and Adley Rosenburg
