FRIDAY, MARCH 18 | 8 ADAR II

Thank you, Miami, for a great Super Sunday and Good Deeds Day! Last Sunday, 1,225 superhero donors responded to more than 700 volunteers’ phone calls, contributing $703,229 to the Annual Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign and supporting Jewish needs in Miami, in Israel and worldwide. In fact, on average, donors contributed 8 percent more than they did last year! If you didn’t make your donation – or wish to make another one – please click here. Special thanks to Robin and Dr. Baruch Jacobs for chairing Super Sunday! Click here to see photos from Sunday, and see story below for more about Good Deeds Day.

Last Sunday’s Good Deeds Day demonstrated the power of volunteers getting together to meet critical needs in Miami. Through activities organized by Federation’s Jewish Volunteer Center (JVC), our community assembled 100 hurricane safety kits for homebound seniors, breakfast baskets to thank 200 emergency responders, and 150 summertime fun bags for local children. Next up for the JVC: J-Serve 2016, a Sunday Funday for local teen volunteers on April 17. Click here or call 786.866.8680 to learn more about J-Serve activities.

As Jews across Miami share the festive holiday of Purim – starting this Wednesday evening, March 23 – our Federation is ensuring that Jews around the globe have the chance to enjoy it, too. From Bulgaria and Ukraine to Israel and beyond, Federation’s overseas partners, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) and The Jewish Agency for Israel, will host synagogue services, concerts and other Purim events for Jews of all ages. These annual festivities celebrate our Jewish heritage and bring joy to residents of isolated, impoverished and war-torn communities who might otherwise not have the chance to observe such holidays.

Attention, grown-ups with children ages 3 to 8! It’s time to get literate about water safety! Join PJ Library on Sunday, April 3 at our three local Jewish community centers for a free, interactive introduction to safety in and around the swimming pool. Click here for more details and to RSVP for this important, life-saving event. PJ Library is a gift from Federation made possible by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation and the Blank Family Foundation.

Share the trip of a lifetime this summer on Federation’s Family Mission to Israel, June 16-23, 2016. Experience the beauty and history of our spiritual homeland, enjoy exciting outdoor activities and fascinating private tours, and take part in a special B’nai Mitzvah celebration with your loved ones.
