Thanks to your generous donations to the Annual Campaign, Federation is able to continue its support of Beit Issie Shapiro (BIS), an Israeli nonprofit organization focused on the needs of children with disabilities and their families. Today, about 120 children attend classes, therapy sessions, workshops and extracurricular activities at one of three BIS centers in Israel. At BIS, no child is ever turned away for inability to pay. In 2016, 40 families received subsidies to help them cover the costs of much-needed services. Read more.

More than 30 percent of Jewish households in Miami with people age 75 or older require help with in-home healthcare, senior transportation, meal delivery services and more. Through the Annual Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign, you help feed homebound elders, bring peace to those in senior care facilities or hospice, organize congregate meal sites and enable aging seniors to live in dignity. Partners in these efforts include our own Mishkan Miami, as well as Jewish Community Services of South Florida and Miami Jewish Health. Earlier this month, Federation’s Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) led an interfaith discussion between Rabbi Rachel Greengrass of Temple Beth Am and members of the Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church as part of JCRC’s Faith in Each Other initiative. Reverend Theo Johnson, Minister Olivia Carey and members of the congregation participated in the robust conversation on Judaism and Israel-related issues. The bridge-building, educational initiative organizes speaking engagements at various local churches and rotary clubs to encourage discussion and understanding.

Engaging the next generation of Jews is more important than ever, and is a priority of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, along with our partner agencies like the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC). With support from Federation’s Annual/UJA Campaign, JDC’s Entwine is helping young adults, ages 24 to 36, make a meaningful impact on global Jewish needs and international humanitarian issues by participating in overseas travel with service opportunities. Missions range from one week to one year and span the globe. For more information about Entwine, visit jdcentwine.org.
