A MESSAGE FROM THE FOUNDATION OF
THE GREATER MIAMI JEWISH FEDERATION

Welcome to the August 2020 edition of The Foundation e-newsletter. We hope each of you and your extended friends and family remain safe and healthy during these unprecedented times. We realize many of us may still be struggling and feeling uncertain. Now, more than ever, we are reminded that This Is Exactly Why Federation Exists. Thanks to the generosity of so many of our donors, you have been there to partner with Federation to continue to support a wide safety net of essential programs for our community needs.

People have lost jobs and wages and are experiencing food insecurity, social isolation, psychological stress and so much more. Federation is working diligently through our Coronavirus Crisis Response Task Force and our network of vital agencies to provide much certainty in this uncertain world.

Thanks to you, Federation has furnished nearly $4 million in emergency funding for COVID-19 relief right here in Miami, but our job is not done yet as the needs continue to increase.

If you have not done so already, we encourage you to visit our COVID-19 Resource Page to learn about important resources throughout the community, as well as opportunities to GET HELP, or if you are in a position to do so, GIVE HELP.

We have been able to respond to this crisis thanks to the commitment and vision of those who have come before us to build a solid infrastructure of agencies and programs as well as a strong endowment to lean on in times of need. Today, we are writing with new and inspiring stories from our donors and our community about their lasting Jewish legacies, as well as an update on our investment portfolio. We hope you enjoy these articles and we encourage you to reach out to us with your story of what motivates you and how you want to make a difference in our community to ensure a vibrant future.

Thank you for your continued trust and partnership with us. We were here in the past, we are here in the present and we will be here in the future as we look forward to a stronger tomorrow — today!

We wish you and your family a happy, HEALTHY and sweet New Year ahead!

A LASTING LEGACY

During her lifetime, Rhalda Bressler Prystowsky z”l had an indelible impact everywhere she lived ... from Gainesville, FL to Hershey, PA and from Harrisburg, PA to Miami, FL. She held a number of community leadership positions over the years and cared passionately for her family and Jewish tradition. Though she passed away in May, her enduring legacy to the Jewish people will be felt for generations to come because of the Lion of Judah Endowment fund she created during her lifetime.

Proper oversight and investment of these funds — with complete transparency — is and has been a key piece to earning and maintaining this trust.
