More than 8,000 pounds of kosher meat...over 3,000 boxes of fresh produce...and 7,500 recipients. |
These numbers tell the story of the difference the Greater Miami Jewish Federation is making in the lives of the most vulnerable who are facing food shortages during the pandemic. Since the crisis began, Federation, working with our primary human service agency Jewish Community Services of South Florida (JCS) and various other groups including Farm Share, Repair the World, Miami-Dade County and the Sol Taplin Charitable Foundation, have organized seven kosher food distribution drive-thru events. Yesterday’s distribution included latkes, sufganiyot (jelly donuts) and toys for Chanukah in addition to food and other staples, to make the holiday special. The next kosher food drive-thru distribution will be on Tuesday, December 22, at 9-11 a.m. at the Dave and Mary Alper JCC, 11155 SW 112 Avenue, Miami.

Unity is not uniformity. |
Federation and its Jewish Community Relations Council, along with Miami community rabbis, have come together to offer a message of unity during these divisive times. Click here to watch a Chanukah video where our community rabbis remind us that to be Jewish is to be a spiritual light even when we are enveloped in darkness. As we light the Chanukah menorah, we recall that, as Jews, we are taught to be lamplighters. In addition, Federations calls your attention to a statement urging civility and healing adopted by the Rabbinical Association of Greater Miami, representing many of our local rabbinic leaders. Click here to read the statement.

This Chanukah, give your child the Gift of Israel, a Federation program that allows you to save for his or her future Jewish educational experience in Israel. |
Your annual investment will be matched by contributions from the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and participating synagogues. Families that enroll beginning in Kindergarten can save as much as $3,000, plus interest, to be used for eligible Jewish educational programs like March of the Living, Alexander Muss High School in Israel, Diller Teen Fellows, Masa programs and many others. The funds may then be used for travel from eighth grade to age 26. One parent calls it “one of the smartest investments [I] ever made.” If you are not a member of a synagogue, you may still participate and Federation will provide a $100 annual match. Click here to enroll and for more information. You may also contact [email protected] or 786.866.8431. |

This holiday season, you can help bring a little joy to some of the most vulnerable members of our community. |
Join Federation Jewish Volunteer Center and Repair the World Miami to participate in safe, family-friendly holiday service projects during the annual Seasons for Giving. You can assemble bagged lunches or gift baskets, make fabric face masks or holiday cards, create hygiene kits and more. Pick up supplies from Federation Headquarters on Thursday, December 24 — or purchase them yourself — and then return them the next day at designated locations throughout Miami. Federation will deliver the projects to local shelters and community organizations, making the holidays more meaningful for so many. For more information and to register, click here. |

The meaning of Chanukah is reaching Jews in Ukraine and the former Soviet Union thanks to a program sponsored by Federation overseas partner The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. |
The Seminar of Informal Jewish Education drew participants from 43 cities and eight countries, who came together virtually to discuss how to create a meaningful Chanukah in their own communities. Jewish leaders discussed the unique challenges and opportunities of online engagement during the pandemic. Participants learned, connected and built new partnerships and enjoyed a special performance by Israeli singer Yonatan Razel. To learn more about Federation’s work across the world, click here. |
