Since 2014, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and the Hebrew Free Loan Association (HFLA) of South Florida have been working together to support the Making Miracle Babies Fertility Fund. Started by Michelle and Matan Ben-Aviv in honor of their son, the innovative loan fund empowers South Florida Jewish couples with fertility obstacles to pursue parenthood via In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). Thanks to a generous donation from Reggie and Jeff Goldstein, whose son and daughter were adopted, HFLA of South Florida has expanded the fund to include interest-free loans for adoption. Read more.

As Jewish students across Florida are returning to college campuses, Hillels are ready to welcome them back to Jewish life on campus. From Tallahassee to Tampa, from Gainesville to the Gables, the Annual Federation/UJA Campaign supports seven Hillels across Florida, including Central Florida Hillel, Hillel at FIU, Hillel at FSU, Hillel of Broward and Palm Beach, Hillels of the Florida Suncoast, UF Hillel and UM Hillel, providing opportunities for thousands of college and university students to volunteer, develop leadership skills, join in social events and holiday celebrations, travel to Israel together and build lasting friendships.

With the High Holidays approaching, it’s important to make time for a mitzvah, especially one that can involve the children in your life. Join PJ Library at the annual Jewish Community Services (JCS) Milk & Honey event on Sunday, September 18 at Federation, 4200 Biscayne Boulevard. Prepare, decorate, and fill PJ Library food baskets to be delivered to local seniors. Help us meet our goal of 10,000 baskets. For more information and to RSVP, click here.

Are you looking for a spiritual connection this Jewish New Year? To help members of Miami’s Jewish community choose a place to worship, Federation and the Rabbinical Association of Greater Miami have compiled a directory of area synagogues. We encourage you to review this list and call a synagogue for membership information. Make the year 5777 a time for Jewish renewal for you and your family, and a time to find personal meaning and connection with your community.

Did you know Federation and our partner agency, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), have been supporting Argentina’s Jewish community for the past 15 years? Many of these families have such limited incomes that they are unable to provide financial support for their aging family members. Thanks to LeDor VaDor Home for the Aged, 330 Jewish senior citizens have a warm and safe place to call home. The Buenos Aires facility offers comprehensive medical services, a range of programs that minimize isolation, and the opportunity to connect with the wider Jewish community. The model has been so successful that it has been replicated by other communities in the region, such as Uruguay.
