The Greater Miami Jewish Federation and its Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) commend the bipartisan Miami-Dade Congressional Delegation for unanimously supporting $1 billion to fund Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system in a vote in the US House of Representatives yesterday. |
Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart (R), Rep. Carlos Gimenez (R), Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (R), Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) and Rep. Frederica Wilson (D) all voted in favor of the legislation, which provided Israel with critical funds to protect its citizens from rocket fire and reiterated the right of the world’s only Jewish State to defend itself from terrorist attacks. This week, JCRC worked in partnership with several Jewish and pro-Israel organizations in South Florida to help ensure the support of our elected officials in Washington, DC. For more than a year, thousands of community members experiencing food insecurity as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic have been relying on Federation’s Free Kosher Food Distribution Drive-Thrus to help them fill their fridge and pantry. |
On Thursday, September 30, from 9-11 a.m., packages of kosher chicken and beef, fresh produce, milk, eggs, challah, dry goods and other supplies will be placed in the trunks of waiting cars at Federation’s next drive-thru event at Federation Headquarters, 4200 Biscayne Boulevard. Partners in the food drive include Federation’s Jewish Volunteer Center (JVC), our primary human service agency Jewish Community Services of South Florida, Repair the World Miami, Farm Share and Miami-Dade County. We are also grateful to a number of generous donors for their support, whose loyalty allows us to continue our work. Cars will enter the parking lot via the northbound lane of Federal Highway. Participants must remain in their cars and wear masks. All CDC COVID-19 safety guidelines will be followed. | | | |

A new year means a new beginning for 114 new olim from Ukraine who recently arrived in Eretz Israel. |
The flight from Kiev was organized with the help of Federation overseas partner, The Jewish Agency for Israel, which will also assist the group with intensive language and culture studies as they begin to make Israel their new home. Among the new Israelis are 75 teenagers, 14-16 years old, who are participating in Naale Elite Academy, an international education program that brings Jewish youth from around the world to study in Israel. Kshuisha, only 14 years old, left behind her friends and family to pursue her dreams of becoming a doctor so she can help people like her mother, who became sick. Even with the increased logistical challenges and strict health and safety guidelines in the wake of COVID-19, nearly 22,000 Jews from around the globe made aliyah in 2020.
