Dear Friend,
With the beginning of a new fiscal year, our newly-elected Greater Miami Jewish Federation leadership officially took office earlier this week on July 1st. We are grateful for the desire of so many individuals to serve our community during this time of great uncertainty, and we especially want to express our deepest gratitude to Jeffrey Scheck, who has completed his two-year term as Chair of the Board. Throughout this time and through many challenging situations, Jeff always demonstrated a sincere and welcoming manner and an earnest concern for the welfare of others. We are deeply thankful for his service and we look forward to his ongoing counsel and guidance.
The partnership between Federation’s Board Chairs and the President & CEO is essential to the continuity of our organization. With this being our first joint public message, especially in the midst of a worldwide coronavirus crisis, we pledge to build upon the legacy of all those respected leaders who have given of their time and resources in pursuit of our Mission “to mobilize human and financial resources to care for those in need, strengthen Jewish life and advance the unity, values and shared purpose of the Jewish people in Miami, in Israel and around the world.” These are not just words to us; they represent our strategic guide star, informing every decision we make.
The clarity of our Mission in these extraordinary times is enabling us to meet the significant and unexpected needs of thousands of the most vulnerable people, while ensuring the programs and services that have built and sustained our community, continue to flourish.
The Annual Federation/UJA Campaign, which is the engine that makes this all possible, remains our best and strongest way to act collectively and responsibly. We are proud the Annual Campaign will be guided for the next two years by Ariel Bentata, Federation’s new General Campaign Chair. He clearly understands the power of the Annual Campaign as an instrument to do good individually and together and he brings a wealth of leadership experience and Jewish vision to this extremely important role.
As our nation marks our 244th Anniversary of Independence on July 4th, we join with all our fellow Americans to celebrate all the blessings of freedom we have and to continue to work together to fulfill the noble aspirations of our founders promising liberty and justice for all.
This Independence Day weekend, with our state witnessing an alarming rise in COVID-19, please take every precaution to remain healthy. We wish a refu’ah sh’leymah to all those affected by this virus and we pray for the comfort of those who have lost loved ones.
Remember, if you or someone you know is facing difficulties, please visit JewishMiami.org/covid19 or call the Jewish community’s confidential helpline at 305.576.6550 for guidance. Calls are answered 24/7 every day of the year.
Finally, we take this opportunity to let you know we will be returning to the previous format of Federation Five next week so we can share a broader array of information that is of interest to the entire community. If you have any feedback or suggestions for us regarding our communications or any other issue relating to Federation, please never hesitate to let us know. Email us at [email protected].
Shabbat Shalom,
