As the pandemic has dramatically changed the world, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, through its Coronavirus Response Task Force, has mobilized the financial resources to provide immediate help to the most vulnerable. |
The task force, comprised of Federation staff and leadership, meets every few weeks to review the most emergent needs related to the impact of the virus and allocate appropriate funds to address critical issues. Since March, Federation has distributed $2.4 million to help stabilize the Jewish community, assisting individuals and institutions in receiving the help they need to weather the crisis. “It is absolutely clear that for times like these, this is exactly why Federation exists,” said Isaac “Ike” K. Fisher, Federation Board Chair. “We have brought together our leadership, long-time members of our community and more recent residents to assemble the resources necessary to support individuals and our agencies." With $165,000 in grants from Federation and in-kind donations from individual donors, local agencies Miami Jewish Health and Jewish Community Services of South Florida have been able to secure additional personal protective equipment (PPE) to enhance the safety and well-being of frontline healthcare workers and social workers while on the job. |
In the wake of the pandemic, immunocompromised and homebound community members are isolated from personal interaction, which can take a severe emotional toll. Those residing in nursing homes or independent living facilities are experiencing similar challenges. With the allocation to purchase PPE, healthcare and social workers can safely offer critical care to older adults and Holocaust Survivors. This also allows more frequent interaction and socialization opportunities. To see other ways your donation is making a difference, click here. | | | |

Federation long-standing overseas partner, The Jewish Agency for Israel, created a COVID-19 Loan Fund for Communities in Crisis, an emergency initiative that helps Jewish institutions around the world bridge immediate gaps in cash flow amid the pandemic. |
Its initial phase granted a total of $9.65 million to 23 communities outside of North America with urgent needs. By providing no-interest loans to local organizations offering aid and essential services, the Loan Fund enables these communities to buy basic supplies such as food and hygiene products and helps promote efforts for remote learning systems and emotional support. As we continue to live in a virtual world, Federation @ Home keeps you connected. |

Whether you’re looking for PJ Library activities to keep your kids busy, ways to stay active and healthy yourself or for spiritual fulfillment with a weekly Shabbat service, there is truly something for everyone. There’s also a space dedicated to helping those in need. If you’ve lost a loved one or need support, you can request to have Mi Sheberach or Tehillim/Psalms recited on your behalf or even have a personal prayer placed in the Kotel (Western Wall). For those that need assistance finding a job, there’s a place for that, too. Plus, our virtual calendar lays out everything happening in the days and weeks ahead. If you are organizing an event that might be of interest to our community, we encourage you to add it to the calendar. |
