Jewish day school enrollment has increased dramatically this year, with a total of 4,090 K-12 students attending the 10 Greater Miami Jewish Federation-funded day schools, marking an incredible 12.5 percent increase over last year. |
Federation recognizes the importance of instilling a love of Jewish learning, history and tradition from a young age. Sara Bejar, Chair of the Federation Day School Committee, said, “A day school education creates our community’s future leaders. A strong Jewish foundation is our most useful tool to keep that Jewish spark alive in our children, especially after they leave for college.” Thanks to your donation to the Annual Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign, Federation allocated more than $2 million to 10 Miami-Dade County Jewish day schools this past year. Additionally, a total of $2 million in emergency grants was distributed to the schools earlier this year to help respond to increased expenses related to the pandemic.

Yodeah, a nonprofit focused on breast cancer education and cost-effective testing for hereditary cancer genetic mutations in the Jewish community, is making sure Breast Cancer Awareness month does not go unnoticed. |
Your donation to the Annual Campaign helps provide a yearly allocation to the organization, which is a Federation partner agency. Adrienne Pardo, a member of Federation's Women's Amutot, Planning & Distribution and Miami-Yerucham Partnership Committees, said, "The Jewish community recognizes the importance of men and women knowing whether they carry a BRCA mutation so they can take additional life-saving steps to prevent cancer or treat it in an earlier stage." In past years, both Yodeah and Sharsharet, another nonprofit that focuses on Jewish genetic cancer risks, have received Federation Women's Impact Initiative grants. The funding supports programs that empower Jewish women to take control of their health through educational panels and low-cost genetic testing. To learn more, please join Yodeah and Sharsharet, along with many other Jewish groups on Tuesday, October 19, 7:30 p.m. for Strong Women Make Powerful Choices, for a virtual conversation about these important issues.

Come together virtually to honor the accomplishments of people with differing abilities and celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM). |
This year's theme for NDEAM, America's Recovery: Powered by Inclusion, reflects the importance of ensuring that people with disabilities have full access to employment and community involvement during the national recovery from COVID-19. Join Federation's Jewish Abilities Alliance, in collaboration with our Tri-County partners, for a virtual ceremony on Wednesday, October 20, 7-8 p.m. to recognize the inspiring personal stories and empowering achievements of individuals within South Florida’s vibrant Jewish community with differing abilities. Hear tales of triumph, learn about the supportive programs available in our area and find out how you can participate in our advocacy work. Say Shalom to the new Repair the World Miami Fellows: Bevy Daniel and Liv Kleimen. |
Repair the World Miami, a Federation partner, works closely with our Jewish Volunteer Center (JVC) and Young Leadership Division (YLD) to create impactful volunteer opportunities for young Jewish adults. The two new fellows work with local nonprofits to support their missions, bring in more volunteers and create learning experiences for local Jews to better understand social justice and mobilization. For Bevy, organizing through a Jewish-justice lens to "combat issues of social injustice [makes] my Judaism feel present and pertinent, something that makes me a more powerful and rooted organizer...a more Jewish Jew." Click here to get to know more about Bevy and Liv. |

Federation, along with our overseas partner, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), has long prioritized the health and wellbeing of older adults. |
With October 1 recognized as International Day of Older Persons, we are reminded that in the wake of the pandemic, issues among the aging population have become particularly significant. To meet this growing need, JDC ESHEL, which works with the Israeli government, other nonprofits and seniors to develop innovative programming for this population, recently created a dashboard that measures the health of seniors in Israel. The dashboard reflects a shared set of directories for government agencies and other organizations to measure and monitor levels of optimal aging among Israelis. Read more. |
