In response to food insecurity brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation is sponsoring another Kosher Food Distribution Drive-Thru on Wednesday, July 29, 9-11 a.m. at Federation headquarters, 4200 Biscayne Boulevard. |
Our partners in this effort include Jewish Community Services of South Florida, our primary human service agency, Feeding South Florida, Sol Taplin Charitable Foundation and Temple Emanu-El. Cars will enter the parking lot via the northbound lane of Federal Highway and volunteers will place packages of fresh food including kosher meat, rolls, locally grown fruits and vegetables and non-perishables into each vehicle’s trunk. Participants must remain in their car and wear masks. Food packages will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. For more information, click here.

Federation is now accepting applications for its 2021 Jewish Incubator Grants, which will support nonprofits that strengthen Miami’s Jewish community through innovative and impactful programs. |
Jewish organizations, synagogues, agencies and schools with creative and forward-thinking ideas that enrich social-service, educational or Jewish-identity-building activities are invited to apply. This year, preference will be given to programs that address the emerging needs of the community as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year’s recipients included a program to support engagement with the LGBTQ community, an initiative to provide interactive programs for older adults on Miami Beach and a program to develop Jewish experiences for hospitalized children and their families. Applications are due no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2020. Click here to apply.

Federation emergency grants distributed in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic are helping older adults living in our partner city of Yerucham, Israel, connect with family and friends. |
The Miami-Yerucham Partnership recently approved the purchase and distribution of 40 tablet devices (Kshishophone) for elderly residents of Yerucham, allowing them to connect with family and friends. Teen volunteers assembled the devices, distributed them and showed the seniors how to use them, helping them feel less isolated during the pandemic. Since the coronavirus crises began, Federation’s Miami-Yerucham Partnership has been critical in supporting the community as it faces a number of new challenges, including engaging the city's award-winning robotics team to produce more than 700 face shields for teachers, professionals and volunteers working with vulnerable populations in the city, as well as for organizations serving children and young adults with special needs. |

With the idea to build a more inclusive Jewish community, Federation recently launched Miami.JewishAbilities.org, a user-friendly gateway that links individuals with disabilities and their families to services, support and resources. |
This website — the first of its kind in Miami — developed out of a grassroots effort to meet a community need. In an example of collaboration at its best, Ben Berman, Michelle Saka and Avigayil Shaffren, parents of children with special needs, organized a series of three informational meetings for Miami-Dade families. The effort led to the Jewish Abilities Alliance website — a way to create community, bring information together and share experiences. Read more. |

In an effort to continue supporting Holocaust Survivors, Federation and Jewish Community Services are partnering with KAVOD Survivors of the Holocaust Emergency Fund (SHEF) coalition. |
Established in 2015, the national initiative supports thousands of Survivors across the US. All funds contributed to KAVOD SHEF are generously matched dollar for dollar and used as quickly as possible. One hundred percent of the aid is directed toward emergency services that address unmet urgent needs including medical, dental and vision care; home healthcare and transportation and help paying for rent, utilities and home repairs. Beyond aid for groceries and household necessities, KAVOD offers community, connection and the very real sensation of feeling valued. Miami Dade County Holocaust Survivors in need of emergency services and support may contact our primary human services partner, Jewish Community Services of South Florida at 305.576.6550. |
