A Message From the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach

Since the founding of the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach 30 years ago, our community has gathered on Yom HaShoah to commemorate the 6 million Jews brutally murdered by the Nazis during World War II. On this day, we also honor the Survivors, those brave souls, who, against all odds, beared witness to the atrocities of the Nazi regime and lived to tell the story of man’s worst inhumanity against man.

In the 75 years since the liberation of Auschwitz and the end of World War II, Yom HaShoah observances have become even more necessary. We are witnessing a staggering rise in worldwide anti-Semitism; not since the Holocaust have Jews faced such hatred. As our beloved Holocaust Survivors age, it is our responsibility to continue to teach the lessons of the Shoah to future generations.

Given the current global coronavirus pandemic, as we are all isolated in our homes, we tried to find a way to bring the testimonies of the Shoah to you, so that while we are apart, we can still remember together. Our day-long program of curated films reminds us and the world where hate, intolerance and apathy can lead. We remember those who perished and honor the brave and resilient Survivors, whose courage sustained the Jewish community and its shared faith.

We hope you enjoy the meaningful messages these eight films will bring throughout the day. Please encourage your friends and family to also participate by sending them the link to this website.

On this day, we celebrate the resilience of the human spirit, the heroes who remain among us and we remember the 6 million precious souls who were murdered by the Nazis.
