Lion of Judah

Lion of Judah

Each year, Women’s Philanthropy of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation raises millions of dollars to support vital programs and services in Miami, in Israel and in more than 70 other countries around the world. We take great pride in acknowledging the dedication of every woman in our community who has committed personal resources to help those in need. We also are proud to recognize those women who make a gift of $5,000 or more to the Annual Federation Campaign.

Created in 1972 by Norma Kipnis Wilson (z”l) and Toby Friedland (z”l) for the Miami Women’s Division Campaign, the Lion of Judah is now an international symbol of commitment to the global Jewish community. This exciting program has brought together women of all ages and from many walks of life in order to play an essential role in creating social justice, healing the sick, feeding the hungry, preserving human dignity and building Jewish identity. Today, more than 16,000 women worldwide proudly wear the gold Lion pin to signify their commitment.

Lion of Judah Events

Ask any woman who wears the Lion of Judah pin and she’ll tell you: there’s nothing like being in the same room with hundreds of like-minded women who "roar". This alone symbolizes our success, strength and commitment to Jewish peoplehood.

As a Lion of Judah, you’ll be invited to national and international events and conferences, as well as premier local events, such as our prestigious Lion of Judah Luncheon. You’ll hear from top speakers, learn more about important issues and have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the world around you.

Lion of Judah Endowment

Just as the Lion of Judah has its roots in Miami, so too does the Lion of Judah Endowment Society (LOJE), created by Mikki Futernick in 1992. The LOJE program honors women who have perpetuated their Lion of Judah donation, making them Forever Lions.

Through a minimum legacy commitment of $100,000, a donation of $5,000 or more would be made annually in your name to the Greater Miami Jewish Federation Women’s Campaign beyond your lifetime, thus creating a lasting Jewish legacy. These funds provide a solid base of ongoing support for the Miami Jewish community forever.

Today, more than 200 Miami women proudly wear the LOJE flame (Or L’Atid) on their Lion pins, making them a light unto the future. For more information, contact The Foundation of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation at [email protected] or 786.866.8623.
