This coming July 18th will mark the 25th anniversary of the bombing of the AMIA Jewish Community Center, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This attack is considered one of worst anti-Semitic acts since WWII, resulting in 85 deaths and over 300 injuries. Despite Iran’s and Hezbollah’s undeniable responsibility, no one has been brought to justice so far.
For over a decade AJC (American Jewish Committee) in South Florida has, on an annual basis, convened a community-wide initiative in partnership with over 50 local Jewish organizations and institutions, to honor the lives of the AMIA victims. This program- attended by hundreds of people and covered widely- has also provided an invaluable venue through which South Florida’s Jewish community not only raises its voice anew for the pending cause of justice but, also reflects jointly on ongoing issues affecting world Jewry, including growing anti-Semitism and the scourge of terrorism.
Given this particular anniversary, the recent anti-Semitic attacks in the US, and the permanent threat of terrorism facing us, AJC’s Belfer Institute for Latino and Latin American Affairs is planning a very special and even larger event.
This year the memorial and candle lighting ceremony will be held on Tuesday, July 16th at 7:00 PM, at Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus, located on 20350 NE 26th Ave, Miami, FL 33180.
