First woman to serve as senior rabbi at Temple Judea

BY BEA L. HINES Oh, happy day!

Warm congratulations are in order for Rabbi Judith L. Siegal, who recently was named the Senior Rabbi-Elect at Temple Judea in Coral Gables.

Siegal is the first female rabbi in the synagogue's 65-year-history to serve as a senior rabbi. She currently serves as the assistant rabbi at the synagogue, one of Miami's largest Reform congregations. She will assume her new position on July 1.

In a press release from the temple, Siegal said building on the temple's strong foundation, her vision is to create a modern day kehila kedosha or sacred community at the temple. The vision entails positioning the synagogue as a place to study, pray, collaborate and help others to connect socially, celebrate life-cycle events and create meaningful Jewish experiences at every stage of life.

Siegal already is involved in programming, creating and leading worship services, holiday celebrations and life-cycle events throughout the synagogue.
