Photo Exhibit, 'Miami Beach, Unscripted,' Opens May 19 at Miami Beach JCC

A new photography exhibition, Miami Beach, Unscripted, by Ellen Goldberg, will open Tuesday, May 19 at 7:30 PM at the Schwartz–Jacobs Family MBJCC Art Gallery at the Miami Beach JCC.
Goldberg, an author and photojournalist, brings a global perspective to her work, documenting everyday life and cultural identity through a deeply personal lens. Her photography, which spans continents and includes war reporting in Sri Lanka and work in Jewish communities throughout India, has been exhibited internationally and is held in major collections.
This time, she focuses her lens closer to home – in this case, Miami Beach – inviting viewers to experience candid, visually rich moments that reveal the unexpected beauty of daily life.

A very special screening on Monday, May 11 at 7:30 PM, as part of our Jewish American Heritage Month Programming of the heart-warming, Miami based film – iMordacai. An uplifting comedy and a love letter to the city of Miami, iMordecai urges us all to live the one life we have to the fullest.
Writer, Producer and Director Marvin Samel will make a special guest appearance. There will be a talkback after the movie.
Based on a true story, iMordecai stars Academy Award-nominated and two-time Emmy-winning actor Judd Hirsch (star of the Emmy-winning sitcom Taxi, Ordinary People, Independence Day) as Mordecai Samels and Academy Award-nominated actress Carol Kane (Hester Street) as his wife, Fela, both survivors from Poland, who are now living in Miami. Their son, Marvin (Academy Award-nominated actor Sean Astin, The Lord of the Rings), is an ambitious cigar maker trying to support his own family while still being there for his aging parents. But when Mordecai's ancient flip phone breaks, he starts to take lessons from Nina (newcomer Azia Dinea Hale), a yong employee of Ultratech. She tutors Mordecai on his new iPhone, opening him up to all kinds of novel experiences and adventures, which makes him feel like a kid again.
This film screening is presented in partnership with The Miami Jewish Film Festival.

The Deering Foundation partners with Artist-in-Residence Susana Behar to create a concert honoring Jewish American Heritage Month (JAHM) and Mother's Day Echoes of Heritage: A Sephardic Mother’s Song.
An internationally recognized interpreter of Sephardic song and an award-winning vocalist, Susana Behar has dedicated a significant part of her career to the preservation and performance of this rich musical tradition, appearing in festivals and concert series across the United States and abroad, including last year’s performance at the Library of Congress.
A recipient of the Florida Individual Artist Fellowship in Folk and Traditional Arts for her work in Sephardic music, Susana Behar has also served as Artist-in-Residence at History Miami Museum. This special performance will showcase the rich musical legacy of the Sephardic diaspora, bringing together captivating songs of love, longing, and cultural memory in Ladino, the historic language of Sephardic Jews. Deeply engaging and uplifting, the concert celebrates tradition while paying tribute to Susana’s maternal heritage, inviting audiences to experience the beauty, diversity and emotional depth of this timeless repertoire.
Susana Behar will be joined by a group of extraordinary musicians, with Michel Gonzalez on guitar and musical direction, Adolfo Herrera on percussion and Kenny Aponte on cello.
