Financial and Data Analyst

The Financial Analyst is responsible for assisting in the financial oversight, review, and support of Federation’s beneficiary agencies by: providing monthly review of agency and day school financial statements and analyzing and researching variances from budget. In addition, the position performs ad-hoc analysis as needed and works on special projects such as, implementing efficiencies in shared purchasing and staffing, and researching and sharing best practices in the field.

This position reports to the Director of Community Planning.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interact directly with Agency and Day School finance departments in order to:
    • Ensure timely receipt of monthly financial statements
    • Identify areas of concern and assist in plans for remediation
    • Support the implementation of best financial practices at Agencies and Day Schools
  • Review and analyze financial statements and program statistics
  • Prepare financial/written analysis in approved format
  • Maintain Agency and Day School financial and program statistics
  • Assist in the development, monitoring and reporting of outcome measurements
  • Research best practices in the field and assist in the development of programmatic and financial impact measurement and evaluation
  • Research and analyze costs and benefits of consolidations or efficiencies in purchasing and staffing and oversee implementation
  • Provide information and accounting support for Planning department programs

  • Staff volunteer committees as required

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; finance or accounting highly preferred
  • Five+ years of relevant experience in Jewish communal, non-profit, public sector or related field
  • Exceptional analytical, written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working collaboratively and effectively with executive management, volunteer leaders and colleagues
  • Advanced computer skills including strong knowledge of Excel and familiarity with financial software packages
  • Passion for the mission of Federation and the Jewish community
  • Audit experience preferred
  • Detail oriented self-starter with ability to follow up
  • Able to meet tight deadlines, multi-task, and work well under pressure.
