Supporting Traumatized Israeli Children Post-October 7
Federation is providing relief for Israeli children experiencing PTSD and trauma after the October 7 attacks. Our Israel Emergency Fund (IEF) funding has included critical allocations to the Israel Association for Child Protection (ELI) for therapeutic and crisis intervention counseling for children and families who suffered the atrocities of the Hamas attacks. In the first 24 hours of October 7, ELI accounted for 116 children losing either one or both parents. By October 9, the nonprofit had assembled a team of therapists to administer complex trauma relief and crisis intervention for more than 1,300 adults and 700 children. “We knew from experience that treating trauma promptly is crucial in minimizing the risk of [PTSD],” said ELI Senior Therapist Shoshana Goldberg, stressing that a delay in treatment could hamper children’s ability to lead normal lives. Additional IEF funding was supplied to ELI for the nonprofit’s therapeutic intervention for women and girls brutalized on October 7.
