Israeli Elections: A Historic Turnout Highlights the Democratic Process
Israel’s robust democracy was on full display during this week’s national election — the first to occur since Hamas’ brutal terrorist attacks on October 7. Citizens turned out in droves to exercise their right to vote with voter turnout reaching nearly 78 percent in what many are calling the most crucial election in the country’s history. Standing apart in the Middle East, where democratic freedoms are virtually nonexistent, Israel holds competitive, multiparty elections, in which Jewish and Arab citizens, including Muslims, Christians and Druze, all have a voice in shaping their country’s future. While we don’t yet know the exact formation of Israel’s new government, Jewish Miami congratulates Israel on a successful Election Day — one that reflects the shared democratic principles and civic participation that binds Israelis and North American Jews.
