Federation Is Helping the Entire Bnei Menashe Community Make Aliyah by 2030
With Federation’s help, the entire Bnei Menashe community from northeast India will be making aliyah by 2030. Descended from the biblical tribe of Menashe, this remote Jewish population in Manipur and Mizoram has maintained its Jewish traditions and a fervent hope to return to the Jewish homeland. The past three decades have seen 4,000 Bnei Menashe make aliyah, but 6,000 remain. Federation and its agencies, in partnership with the Government of Israel, have launched a five-year initiative to bring the rest of the community to Israel. Earlier this year, the first 589 Bnei Menashe olim (immigrants) arrived at Federation-supported absorption centers where they are receiving Hebrew instruction, employment guidance, education assistance and social services, enabling them to embrace life in Israel.
