Caring for the Caregivers in Israel

As missiles and rockets continue to fall across Israel, displacing and traumatizing thousands, Federation is providing critical emotional support and counseling not only to Israeli citizens, but also to the professionals caring for them. Through the Federation-funded Israel Trauma Coalition (ITC), evacuees in 10 hotels are receiving age-appropriate, onsite psychosocial support, while Israelis still at home are accessing expanded online therapies. At the same time, ITC is helping the experienced and compassionate professionals who have been providing a lifeline since even before October 7. Addressing these professionals’ potential burnout after years of conflict, ITC is offering them important guidance, including practical measures for team management, such as structured check-ins, workload redistribution, protected recovery time and more. Where burnout has already occurred, ITC is providing immediate workload reduction and short-term recovery planning to stabilize staff functioning and maintain caseloads.
