Helping Israelis With Disabilities Live Independently

Federation helps provide independent housing opportunities for people living with disabilities in Israel. The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), Federation’s overseas partner, is assisting them in navigating Israel's pricey rental market, managing their finances with the help of local counselors and finding overall freedom by living on their own.

JDC's Israel Unlimited - a partnership between JDC, the Ruderman Family Foundation and the Government of Israel - is finding creative solutions to this unfortunate and problematic issue. In addition, this year, through a new partnership with the Israeli Ministry of Construction and Housing, more than two dozen apartments across Israel were purchased for Israelis with disabilities who are not eligible for public housing. With this critical assistance, they can rest assured that they can remain in the same apartment for the duration of their adult life, without fearing increasing rental costs, allowing them to build roots and play an active role in their community.
