Federation-funded Camp Szarvas: Where Jewish Identity and Community Building Meet

Hundreds of Jewish children and teens from Central and Eastern Europe are strengthening their Jewish identity and receiving a respite from rampant antisemitism at Camp Szarvas, an international Jewish camp in rural Hungary. Camp programming includes athletics, music, dance and games, with plenty of Jewish traditions infused into everyday camp life. Since its founding in 1990, the Federation partner has welcomed more than 25,000 campers for a unique opportunity to meet, share their diverse backgrounds and explore their Jewish heritage, history and values in a multicultural environment. “From sports competitions to gardening, creative peulot (activities) and nonstop laughing, we are officially in the camp groove,” said a recent missive from Szarvas. “Time flies when you’re having this much fun!”
