Federation-supported Wings Program Offers Expanded Services for IDF Lone Soldiers
With the Greater Miami Jewish Federation’s continued support, Wings — a program that supports the needs of lone soldiers who serve in the IDF without any family in Israel — has expanded its vital services since the start of the war with Iran. This includes proactive outreach to hundreds of Wings participants, emergency grants and shopping vouchers to those impacted by the fighting and mental health treatment for wounded soldiers, evacuees and others affected by nearby rocket attacks. Additionally, Wings offers dedicated assistance to families of lone soldier families, such as online resilience workshops for parents abroad. It also continued counseling and scholarship preparation services remotely during wartime disruptions. Scores of young men and women from South Florida currently serve as lone soldiers. Said reservist Davida, “If I need anything, I have an entire family to lean on: Wings.” The program benefits an average of 3,600 soldiers annually.
