Jewish and Haitian Americans Share Heritage Celebration

May is both Jewish American Heritage Month and Haitian American Heritage Month, and members of both communities came together for an interactive program organized by Greater Miami Jewish Federation’s Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC), Sant La and Ayiti Community Trust. In addition to a keynote address by Rabbi Mario Rojzman of Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus, the first-of-its-kind event included opportunities for participants to get to know each other and explore similarities and shared history. For example, many were interested to know that Haiti openly accepted Jewish refugees during the Holocaust. The event is part of the 10 Days of Connection, a county-wide initiative during which Miami communities build bridges of understanding and unity across diverse populations.
