Hurricane Season Is Here! Join the 2015 Jewish Volunteer Emergency Response Team

Hurricane season is here, and it’s time to prepare. Once again, the Jewish Volunteer Center (JVC) of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation is organizing the Jewish Volunteer Emergency Response Team (JVERT), a database of volunteers who may be called upon to assist in the event of a hurricane or other emergencies in the community.

Do you own a pick-up truck?
Do you know first aid?
Do you own a saw?
Can you organize people?
Are you physically capable of carrying heavy items?
Could you leave your family at home to help others in a time of disaster?
Could your home or business be used as a convening point?

If you can answer “yes” to any of these questions, you may be a perfect fit for a JVERT volunteer opportunity.

Each of our community’s agencies, schools and synagogues has its own plans in case of a disaster. There is also a community-wide response plan which is put into action when necessary. JVERT is an integral part of that plan and relies heavily on dedicated volunteers who will respond to an emergency with compassion and an “I’ll do anything to help” attitude.

Volunteers 16 and older are welcome to join JVERT. Click here to download the JVERT Volunteer Form and return it by email to [email protected] or by fax to Lori Tabachnikoff at 305.573.8115. Please respond by Sunday, July 5 so that we may have our team in place.

An informational call will be held on Wednesday, July 8 at 5:00 p.m. Attendance is not mandatory for JVERT participation.

For general information on JVERT, please call 786.866.8680 or [email protected].
