Local Preschoolers Hold Bake Sale to Support Yerucham First Graders

Preschoolers at the Herman & Miriam Tauber Academy raised $800 to help children in Federation’s partner city of Yerucham buy necessary school supplies. Every year at the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center preschool, graduating classes engage in a mitzvah (good deed) project. After spending this year learning about Israel and preparing to celebrate Yom Ha’Atzamut (Israel Independence Day), the Alyim (Leaves) class chose to have a bake sale with cakes, cookies and candies to benefit Yerucham families who have students entering first grade. The preschoolers also made greeting cards for their Israeli counterparts that will be delivered this summer. The funds raised will be transferred to Israel through Federation and applied to the purchase of gift cards for use at local stores. This will enable Yerucham parents to engage in a precious rite of passage: taking their children shopping for their first backpack and other school essentials to begin their education.
