36 Miami Lions Attended International Lion of Judah Conference

Thirty-six Miami Jewish women joined 1,300 others from around the world to celebrate the power of women’s philanthropy at the International Lion of Judah Conference, September 11-13 in Washington, D.C. At the conference, convened by The Jewish Federations of North America, attendees heard from a variety of respected speakers, including former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Kipnis-Wilson/Friedland Award to long-time Miami Lion of Judah Helene Berger in recognition of her inspiring commitment to the Jewish people. The award is named in honor of Norma Kipnis Wilson and Toby Friedland (z”l), who created the Lion of Judah program in Miami in 1972 to recognize women who contribute $5,000 or more annually to their Federation in their own name — something unheard of at that time.

With its record-breaking attendance, the International Lion of Judah Conference raised a never-before-seen sum of $31.5 million for the Annual Federation/UJA Campaign, serving Jewish needs at home, in Israel and worldwide.
