Look Who’s Going on Miami Mega Mission!

Couples and singles, working professionals and full-time volunteers, rabbis and other community leaders, congregants, friends, neighbors, maybe even a reporter or two... These are just some of the more than 625 people who have already made plans to join Miami Mega Mission 2012, the largest community-wide journey to Israel since 1995. On April 22, 2012, a projected 800 participants will be on their way to nine days of extraordinary experiences in our spiritual homeland.

Under the leadership of Chair Saby Behar and a committee representing a cross-section of Miami’s diverse Jewish community, the Mega Mission is being planned to appeal to the varied interests of Mission-goers. There’s something on the ambitious itinerary for everyone, from history buffs to adventurers, from first-time visitors to veteran travelers. Federation is working with a number of Miami-Dade synagogues to ensure that everyone is invited to go on this once-in-a-lifetime journey.

While in Israel, participants will have the opportunity to see Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Northern Israel and Miami’s partnership city of Yerucham in the Negev; visit museums, historical and religious sites, and an IDF base; meet with Israeli leaders and experts; and still have time for shopping and plenty of outdoor fun. Check out the itinerary here. (Itinerary is subject to change.) Mission-goers will travel each day with their own buses to separate places of interest, and all will gather for five spectacular and unforgettable Mega Events, featuring world-renowned Israeli entertainers, high-level guest speakers and extraordinary surprises. Another exclusive opportunity being offered by Federation is a four-day Pre-Mission to Poland, departing April 17, 2012 and chaired by Sidney M. Pertnoy. Together with three Holocaust survivors from Miami, participants will explore the rich Jewish heritage that thrived in Poland and visit remnants of the sites where Nazi atrocities took place. On Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), participants will join up with 8,000 other people – including Holocaust survivors and teenagers from communities around the world – for the March of the Living, and walk from Auschwitz to Birkenau in testimony of Am Yisrael Chai, the Jewish people live.

With so much planned for Miami Mega Mission, it’s easy to see why so many people have already signed up. The question now is, are you going?
