Yerucham/Miami Soccer Team Wins Gold at JCC Maccabi Games in Detroit

Teens from the Greater Miami Jewish Federation partner city of Yerucham, Israel, joined their Miami counterparts at last week’s JCC Maccabi Games & ArtsFest in Detroit, Michigan. The annual, week-long event is an Olympic-style sporting competition and arts festival for Jewish teens (ages 13-16) from around the world. The Yerucham teens participated as part of the Alper JCC Miami boys’ U14 soccer team — winning the gold medal by defeating a team from Great Britain and enjoying the week of sports, culture and camaraderie. Before flying to Detroit, the Yerucham athletes spent time in Miami, staying at the homes of their teammates and participating in programming at the Alper JCC Miami, one of three Federation-supported Miami JCCs. The Miami-Yerucham Partnership sponsored the Israelis’ trip, which highlighted its mission to strengthen people-to-people relationships between the two communities.
