New Federation Grants Empowering Ethiopian-Israelis
In Federation’s longstanding commitment to empowering Ethiopian-Israelis, our Israel and Overseas Committee recently approved $175,000 in new grants to six programs. For more than two decades, Federation-funded initiatives have expanded access to education, employment and economic independence for thousands of Ethiopian-Israelis. For students, separate grants will continue after-school academic and emotional support in the communities of Pardes Chana and Be’er Sheva; foster academic excellence through tutoring and mentorship for grades 9–12; and provide more scholarships and internships to help university graduates advance their careers. More young adults seeking high-tech jobs will get Federation-funded training and job placement support. Families will receive financial guidance from Amharic-speaking advisors to help them transition from absorption centers to independent living, and those who cannot afford legal representation will receive legal assistance and legal rights education.
