Providing Fresh Produce to Israel’s Children

For years, Federation has provided rescued fresh produce and meals for Israelis in need through Leket Israel, and the demand for the nonprofit’s services has nearly doubled since October 7 due to food scarcity and high prices. In response, Leket has been strengthening its programs, including Leket Briut (Leket Health) school program. This critical initiative provides vital nutrition education and fresh, surplus produce to thousands of students and their families in underserved communities. And since the beginning of 2025, the number of schools it serves has increased by more than 40 percent. Leket Briut integrates nutrition education into school curricula, teaching children about balanced diets, the benefits of fresh fruits and vegetables and how to make healthy food choices. For many students, this may be the first time they have ever tasted fresh produce. Leket is the leading food rescue organization in Israel and a longtime recipient of Annual Campaign dollars.
