Make Shabbat Friends With JVC

Spread the joy of Shabbat by joining Shabbat Friends, a new initiative created by Federation’s Jewish Volunteer Center (JVC). Last month, 10 volunteers participated in the inaugural program with 20 residents from The Lilac at Silver Palms, a North Dade nursing home. Beyond the customary celebrations, it was an opportunity to make new friends, bring a smile to someone’s face and fulfill the mitzvah of tikkun olam (repairing the world). The special program included Shabbat blessings and songs, challah and grape juice. Residents and volunteers worked together to arrange beautiful bouquets to brighten up residents’ rooms and both groups enjoyed spending time together and partaking in shared meaningful traditions. Going forward, the event will take place monthly, with the next one scheduled for Friday, May 3. For more information on Shabbat Friends and how to participate, please contact the JVC at [email protected].
