Miami-Dade JCCs Are Ready for Summer Fun!

Summer is here and Jewish community centers across Miami-Dade County are offering a variety of activities to meet the interests of any child. Camps run from June 17 to August 9, 2013.

Camp Sol Taplin of the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center offers a safe, exciting and transformative experience for children ages two to 15. From swimming and sports, to music, drama and art, Camp Sol Taplin works to ensure that every child has endless opportunities to explore his/her interests and discover new ones. Offerings include the highly popular Extreme Sports Camp, Extreme Adventure Camp, the theatre-focused J-CAT Summer Stock Camp, and the dance-oriented T’Nuah (dance) Camp.

Each year, Camp Sol Taplin host guests from Israel – Summer Shlichim (cultural emissaries) who bring their talent, skills and love of Israel to share with Miami children. Shlichim have recently completed their Israeli army or national service and are experienced in areas of formal and informal education as counselors, teachers, youth or childcare workers. During their time together, the campers and Shlichim have the opportunity to explore cultural differences and similarities, resulting in stronger bonds between Miami and Israel.

Camp Sol Taplin is located on the Michael-Ann Russell JCC’s Sanford L. Ziff Campus, 18900 NE 25 Avenue, North Miami Beach.

Formerly known as Camp Regesh, Klurman Family Day Camp (or Camp Klurman, for short) has been enhanced by the opening of the state-of-the-art Galbut Family Miami Beach JCC on the Simkins Family Campus, located at 4221 Pine Tree Drive, Miami Beach.  The brand-new facility expands the scope and quality of the programs offered by Camp Klurman. Some of the additions include a beautiful new pool for swimming lessons, a field for outdoor sports activities, a full indoor gym, a gymnastics center, an art room and much more.  Camp Klurman offers a general camp experience; specialty camps for sports, gymnastics and dance; a travel camp; and a counselor-in-training (CIT) program.

Camp Klurman is also offering a Pre-K program this year, and will now serve children from that age through 9th grade.  In addition, MBJCC’s partner, Lehrman Community Day School, will run Camp Lehrman, a separate camp for children ages two years through kindergarten located at 727 Lehrman Drive (77th Street), Miami Beach. MBJCC will offer transportation between the two camps to ensure that parents have one-stop drop-off opportunities for their children.

The  Alper JCC Miami on The Jay Morton-Levinthal Campus has something to offer children with a variety of different interests.  Programs cater to the adventurer, the musically inclined camper and everything in between. Among the camp’s diverse offerings are sports and adventure camps; performing arts camp; and Hobby Hour, where campers can choose from 40 activities, including 3D multi-media art, field games, water polo and more. The camp is located at 11155 SW 112 Avenue, Miami.

Dynamic opportunities abound at the Alper JCC’s Miami Camp Tikvah, an exceptional camping experience for children with special needs. The programs are specifically designed for children between the ages of five and 19 who have cognitive and/or physical disabilities. All activities are developed for the particular needs of each child, and are offered in a stimulating, hands-on environment designed to instill confidence, develop social and life skills, increase attention span and improve fine and gross motor abilities.

Alper JCC Miami offers an inclusion program for high-functioning special-needs campers to participate in the general camp, where appropriate. Throughout the day, campers will have an advocate to guide them.

All of the JCCs in Miami-Dade County receive funding and scholarship support from the Annual Greater Miami Jewish Federation/UJA Campaign, enabling people of all ages to benefit from social-service, recreational, educational and cultural programs year-round.

Camp Dates:
June 17-August 9, 2013
