Supporting Breast Health in October — and Always

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but Federation works year-round to promote awareness of breast cancer risks in our Jewish community. Federation-supported nonprofits Sharsheret and Yodeah provide lifesaving education and access to breast cancer screening for Jewish women. As the possibility of breast cancer increases with age, Sharsheret focuses on educating women 55 and over about the importance of cancer screenings, which can lead to early detection and better outcomes. Yodeah facilitates low-cost, state-of-the-art testing for hereditary cancer gene mutations, as 1 in 40 Ashkenazi women AND men carries a BRCA genetic mutation that can markedly increase their risk of the breast cancer.
